Demonetization: The Real Danger to India

by Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak
Had demonetization been the real instrument to eliminate black money, the turmoil we Indians have been pushed into would have been worth suffering.

But, from behind the screen of demonetization, the real danger is threatening India.

Here is how I perceive it:

Kalinga War and Kali of Orissa

by Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

A man called Markandey Katju, who, once upon a time, had headed the Press Council of India, has attracted acrimonious attention of Orissa by spreading wrong information on Kalinga War, through the social media FaceBook. Failure of history to record what exactly had happened in Kalinga War has given birth to a bit confusion in certain circles in Orissa too. Even some learned Oriyas doubt if Ashok was a reality and a war like Kalinga war was really fought. Against this backdrop, for these Oriyas, I reproduce here a relevant extract from my book SRIJAYA DEVANKA BAISSI PAHACHA.

The link below shall lead to the relevant portion of my book.

Bhagabati’s Ghinua and Paul Robson’s Joe Hill

by Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Bhagabati Panigrahi was one of the three founders of Communist Party of India in Orissa. He had contributed immensely to the literature that had created a new era of revolution. His story Shikar had the hero in Ghinua to whom an exploiter deserved to be killed like a tiger that endangered human life. The administration had hanged him to death. And his death has made him immortal. Similarly, Paul Robson’s Joe Hill refuses to die despite death.

I pay my homage to Bhagabati by translating Robson’s poem to club the same with Ghinua.

In Oriya, the pdf file may please be perused.

Now Only You

by Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

June 24 needs no mention of the year. Life is what it was years before and what it will be hereafter. When sometimes one feels that in the vast sea of time, years with a number tag like 1974 or 2015 carry no permanency, only a day of significance appears permanent. And, one such day in my life is June 24 when Sabita had come to my life. She is the gift of my parents to me as I am of her parents to her.

As we age, deeper becomes our oneness under the blessings of our late lamented parents. Love fills up life and brings up a feeling of love beyond life.

The attached poem depicts this feeling.

Tigiria, my beloved Mother, Speak up, Speak up Please

by Subhas Chandra Pattanayak

Tigiria, to the lap of which my mother had delivered me, was a beautiful place to live in.

It had tremendous contributions to culture and literature of Orissa. The scripture of warfare – Veera Sarvaswa – was authored here. The scripture of the dance form that is now known as Odissi Dance – Abhinaya Darpana Prakasha – was authored here.

Pandit Bhubaneswar Badapanda, Kabibara Arttabandhu Pattanayak, Prof. Jayakrushna Mishra, Prof. Devi Prasanna Pattanayak are some of the stars Tigiria has posted in the sky of Orissa’s literature.

Entirely humanitarian kings like Banamali Tunga Champatti Singh Mohapatra, revered sentinels like Jagabandhu Rautroy Pattanayak, Freedom fighters like Madhusudan Pattanayak had their birth in this splendid soil.

The world famous Khandua is Tigiria’s contribution to Sri Jagannatha as well as to Odissi Dance. A splendid land of glorious Buddhist past, in post-independence period it has gradually lost its mana to continuous misrule.

Deeply affected by her ruin, in a solitude when none but her was in my heart, that past had enticed me into in its magnificence, which, forms a part of my forthcoming book ‘Ketebele Kemiti’. I am sharing here.
